What does it feel like?

I sensed a smile welling up from inside of me. The corners of my lips started to arch, forming a smile.

All my senses were numbed and for a brief moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief.

I strode to the door nonchalant of all the others working in the lab.

Only a few more steps to go.

Then it happened.

I stepped out. The sun shone brightly in my face, breathing life into my body. My footsteps broke into a gentle skip; I felt like dancing and twirling in circles, arms fully extended.

I stopped to savour the moment. The wind. The sun. The air.

I breathed deep and long. The air filled my lungs, feeding me with freedom I never knew.

So this is what it feels like. This is what it feels like.
